We provide Consultant Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine Services principally at Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe but admission privileges exist at St Francis Hospital, Ballinderry, Mullingar and The Galway Clinic, Dougiska, Co Galway, Hermitage Clinic, Lucan, & Bon Secours Hospital Renmore.
Professor Clarke is a 1992 Medical Graduate of University College Dublin. Professor Clarke completed Basic Specialty Training in Beaumont and Mater University Hospitals and was awarded the MRCPI in 1994. Professor Clarke undertook higher speciality training in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine in the Mater Hospital and Subsequently Post Doctoral Fellowship training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. After a three year fellowship , Professor Clarke spent a further year as an Advanced Fellow in Hepatobiliary Disease.
Professor Clarke holds the degree of MD by original research/thesis from University College Dublin (1999), UEMS diploma in Gastroenterology (2000) and was included in the Irish Medical Council Specialist Register in Gastroenterology/ G(I)M in 2001.
Professor Clarke was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2002.
Professor Clarke was Consultant Gastroenterologist University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust from July 2001-March 2004 and was also Honorary Senior Lecturer in Medicine, University of Warwick/Leicester School of Medicine.
Professor Clarke is currently Consultant Gastroenterologist, Portiuncula Hospital and Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, University of Limerick GEMS.
Professor Clarke was (the first) Clinical Director, Portiuncula Hospital, Sept. 2009-2011.
